Go On! Jump!
Since I have made my decision to get involved in Internet Marketing I have found out over the past years from doing my own research is that there is one important lesson to be learned. But, before I tell you what that is, let me eloborate. There is a lot of advice and information available to help us and it is growing all the time. There are so many ways that a person can start, (i.e. Private Label Rights, Blogging, Affiliate Marketing) to name a few. There is always another website to visit or forum to see, and in the end what do you end up with? Information overload! What this means for the newbie is that they may never start anything because they have become accustomed to research. Each new piece of information they uncover leads to more research and so the cycle starts again. We decide to start with one project, then we see something else and start reading about it. As a result, we shelve whatever we are doing and start again because we think this must be the right way to start. Guess what happens next? Something new catches our attention, it tells us this is what we should be doing, so we spend more time finding out more about it. As a result of this, we keep on convincng ouselves that we are not prepared to start and in the end what really happens is nothing ever gets done.
So what is this lesson I have learnt?
If you are really serious about joining in, then it is time to say to yourself “enough is enough”, it’s time to jump. We all go through that phase when we have doubted ourselves and our readiness to make a presence on the Internet. Let me tell you, all the best courses and videos cannot replace the one thing you really have to do. Get a website, post blogs, feel like you are making a fool of yourself, don’t wait any longer, get involved, we all have been in that position. Sure, it may seem that it isn’t always easy to provide content for blogs, but this will come with time. What you will find is that you will think about what you have to do and not waste more time listening to what others are telling you what you should do.
Having your own website will actually make you start to contribute to the online community, and you can do that as often as you wish, that part is entirely up to you. Of course, I am not saying that the courses and videos won’t help, (we will all still need help at some point), and a lot of them will provide that. What I am saying is, that until you have your own website and participate, your plans for a future involved with the internet may just remain another dream.
Excellent post Will. As I was reading your post I was reliving my experience with online marketing. Man I jumped from one hoop to another, never giving myself a real chance. You said it! Quit standing on the sidelines and jump in. Commit and stay focused.
Hey Will
I overcame procrastination, exactly by jumping in.
Basically, I was having a chat about procrastination with one of my mentors and telling him all about it, and in his enigmatic way he kinda stopped mid-flow and asked me: “Cris, when you want to drink a glass of water do you procrastinate?”
Although a rather solvable question, you might think. But at that precise moment it was if I just had heard a Koan and suddenly I was enlightened.
Keep on with your posts.
Regards
Cris
